Description

STRUCTURAL INSULATED PANEL

SIP panels go back to the end of the second world war and it has been upgrading in different places around the world where the common concrete construction process are not always the best options as there are certain situations in which the weather is not adequate.

Features

This construction system can be divided into 3 components: MGO Boards, metallic studs according to structural analysis and the core of the panel (EPS).

Exteriors Boards

Two exteriors boards made of cement, silica, and synthetic fibers, along with an insulating core made of expanded polystyrene (EPS)

Reinforcement Metal Section

They reinforce the structure of the panels.

Insulating Core

It is made of expanded polystyrene (EPS).

Construction Process

Steps

1. Structural analysis: After receiving the drawings and the specs required for the project, this will define the panel thickness and metallic studs to be used on walls and slabs.

2. Prefabrication: Following our structural analysis, we start fabricating each module for the walls and slabs to the precise measurement. This will be done offsite.

3. Installation: Start transportation of each module and installation according to erection drawings.

4. Finishing: All joints will be filled up to 1mm and the wall will be ready for any type of finishing, from paint or tile.

Advantages

STRUCTURAL INSULATED PANEL (SIP)

TRADITIONAL CMU METHOD

No thermal efficiency provided to the interior of the structure

Slower construction

Generates waste onsite from different materials

No acoustic isolation

No flexibility to existing conditions or to different construction systems

Construction time

Roughly between 50% to 70% faster than the traditional system. (Not taking into consideration any delays by independent conditions (weather)

Seismic protection

This construction system has been used in buildings that have suffered recent seismic activity and have performed as expected. Please see pictures for reference.

Acoustic isolation

No sound trespasses the walls, even in multiple rooms inside the same building.

Waste

As this construction system is modulated, there is no waste coming from our panels as everything is made to fit in the existing measures.

Thermal Isolation

There is no temperature exchange between the interior and exterior of the building and rooms.

Energy usage

Per the thermal isolation that this construction system provides, there is up to 60% of energy saved as there is no need for air conditioning units.

Cost

As the material required for this construction system is lighter and stronger, there is a 15-20% cost reduction to the traditional system.

Adaptability

This system is highly adaptable to the circumstances that the project is being subjected to. As everything can be made offsite, to the exact measurements and with fast compatibility to traditional construction.

Safety

The MGO boards does not generate fire, cannot grow mold nor produces any health hazardous material over time for the inhabitants.

Ecology

This construction system is made out of nontoxic materials and is completely recyclable. There is no need to use wood forms in order to build and, as everything is already fabricated offsite, the amount of transportation required is as low as possible in order to reduce truck emissions.
